Just as lawyers have to familiarise themselves with every new case, so, too, professional interpreters have to prepare themselves for the specific subject matter of a conference and the terminology involved.
As the conference organiser, you can help the interpreters by making all the relevant documentation available to them:
• Agenda
• List of speakers (possibly with brief CVs)
• List of participants
• All documentation sent to the participants
• Texts of speeches
• Presentations
• Background information (brochures, annual reports etc.)
If documents are going to be distributed during the conference, interpreters should be provided with copies in the languages concerned – if possible before the meeting starts.
